Valencia (Venezuela). -The city of Valencia, in Venezuela, used to be one of the most pro-bullfighting in the country; it had an even bigger bullring than Mexico. Nevertheless, once Mayor Francisco “Paco” Cabrera, a man who was very pro bull-fighting, left office, interest in bullfighting declined. Furthermore, Jordi Casamitjana, coordinator of the group animal defence and welfare group ´Committee Anti Stierenvechten (CAS), was invited by the Town council of the City to give a presentation about bullfighting; a presentation that was a great success, since several councilmen raised the possibility of declaring Valencia an anti-bullfighting city. The coordinator of the CAS left the meeting promising to send examples of declarations made by other cities, and some hours later he was speaking with mayors of other nearby municipalities, who expressed great interest in the idea.
