Disturbances at an anti-bullfighting manifestation

Tarragona-Spain. A demonstration by an anti-bullfighting group in front of the bullring of Tarragona last January 30, ended in a fight between supporters of bullfighting and those opposed to them. The organizers, members of the Association Against the Torture and the Maltreatment of Animals (ACTYMA), had been given the necessary permissions to carry out their demonstration which was one that was simply designed to inform.
Just after the demonstrators had installed a banner in front of the square and staged a burial of animals, a group of twelve persons who suddenly appeared suddenly on the scene and began to verbally threaten the demonstrators in addition to removing items used in the demonstration and attacking one of the ACTYMA spokesmen. Finally the police had to escort the members of the Association to the outskirts of the city. The affiliation has denounced these acts and affirm that, in 14 years of activism, they have never encountered an episode as violent as this one. (January, 2010)
