Madrid. – The progress of a People’s Legislative Initiative (ILP), in the Parliament of Catalonia for the suppression of bullfights, has evinced a prompt reaction from Esperanza Aguirre, the president of the CAM of Madrid. He immediately called for the Valencian and Murcian communities, to declare the bullfights in their communities as “Bien de Interés Cultural” (‘In the Interest of Culture) or “BIC”. A popular demonstration is called to express the rejection of the majority of citizens (as the Gallup polls increasingly prove), by means of a conspicuous protest from Madrid.
Convocation:
Date: Sunday 28th March.
Motto: “Torture is not culture”.
Start time: 12 p.m.
Route: From the Town Square up to the Puerta del Sol.
At the end of the declaration there will be a platform for the participants.
In pushing for this BIC, Aguirre puts himself in a ridiculous position before the European community Within it is contained a whole package of unacceptable absurdities. Some of the consequences of ratification of the BIC is that it would lead to:
- the financing, with public money of the most subsidized private business of all,
- the giving of tax relief on everything related to the bullfights and the bulls,
- allowing the entry of minors to the bullfight arenas, children who have been taught to torture in school,
- that any declaration or action against the bullfights could constitute a crime.
The ONG ‘ADDA’ is one of the largest of the numerous entities that are collaborating in this demonstration of refusal of the BIC. We ask our associates, collaborators and sympathizers who are present in this important action, to contact us if they want to be grouped under ADDA’S initials. Please contact us by email (adda@addaong.org) or by phone (93 459 1674) or by leaving a message out of office hours (93 459 1601).
For a progressive, worthy, ethical Spain and against the spectacle of maltreatment to the animals, all to the demonstration!
(March, 2010).
