Arévalo, Ávila.- In the town of Arévalo, in Ávila, the Municipal Socialist Group has presented a contentious administrative proposal to annul government approved agreements for the contracting out of bullfighting events. According to the Group, procedural irregularities were found in the contracts. “There were government subsidies of more than 600,000 euros over three years for the hiring of enclosures, in addition to 500,000 euros spent on the sale of entrance tickets and other festival costs. Such spending represents a squandering of the municipal financial resources, especially in the current economic climate,” they point out in a press release. The group also ask for a review of desicions made by the local government council that provisionally agree the awarding of a contract for the “organisation, management and development of bullfighting spectacles.” (June, 2010)
