Francia.- During the parliamentary step of the Popular Legislative Initiative, ILP to suppress the bullfights in Bullfighting Catalunya, the French Bullfighting Union sent a written statement of support for bullfighting to all the deputies of the Catalan Parliament. However the statement, supposedly endorsed by elected representatives, turned out to be full of errors and falsehoods. Three of the supposed representatives to have endorsed the statement were in fact dead while others, according to FLAC, did not know that their names had been used and had never been never been consulted on the issue. One such was the first mayor of Villeneuve – les Avignon, Jean Marie Roubaut, who expressed his indignation, affirming that “ I have not signed the text and am fiercely against it.” Other supposed signatories were either retired or had ceased to hold office for other reasons.
The French Federation that fights for the abolition of the bullfights, FLAC (Fédération des Luttes pour l’Abolition des Corridorss) denounced this trickery via the NGO ‘ADDA’ in Catalonia, and has informed all the deputies of the little or zero value that can be attached to the statement. Confronted with the scandal, Jean Marie Egidio, member of the Bullfighting Union, responded that “ it was a simple error, since the lists had not been updated. ” If this is carelessness and lack of rigor with which bullfight supporting Frenchmen defend these spectacles, then it is possible that bullfighting will be finished in France well before it is accomplished in Spain.
