Madrid. – The association, ‘El Refugio’ (the refuge) has gathered more than 60,000 signatures, more exactly 60,208, against with the aim of presenting a Popular Legislative Initiative against bullfights and bullfighting events in the Community of Madrid. According to the organization, the Assembly of the Community of Madrid has put all kinds of obstacles in their way including denying them access to any kind of information. ‘El Refugio’ point out that during the bullfights and bullfighting spectacles, every year around 13,500 animals are tortured and executed. It also denounces the expenditure each year of more than 550 million Euros of public funds that go to the financing of these types of cruel spectacles. (June, 2010)
A school in Cáceres teaches bullfighting to 4 and 5-year-old children.
Madrid. – The bull killer Emilio de Justo has given a talk to 64 children understood to be between 4 and 5 years of age in of the Center of Infantile Education of Joaquín Ballesteros de Moraleja (close to Madrid) . The bull killer told the children of his beginnings in bullfighting and how he developed a love for it when he was just an adolescent. He even took to the school his ‘suit of lights’ and some of the instruments of torture, such as swords and matador’s sticks.
