Barcelona – According to information in the 17th July 2010 edition of the digital periodical ‘The Voice of Barcelona’ the company that manages the Monument bullfight arena in Barcelona, Funciones Taurinas, has launched a new publicity campaign. Advertisements stuck onto the rear headrests of the cars of a Barcelona taxi fleet, includes announcements of an upcoming bullfight programme at the Monument. It is the last desperate ambit by bullfighting groups to apply pressure before the next vote of the Catalan Parliament on the Popular Legislative Initiative to prohibit bullfights. The digital newspaper also adds that the Popular Party has taken a project of modification to the Council of Statutory Guarantees (CGE) maintaining that “the autonomous Catalan Government does not have authority on bullfighting spectacles.” In fact article 141,3 of the Statute of Autonomy establishes indeed that the exclusive authority in the matter of spectacles and recreational activities does belong to the Autonomous Catalan Government.
