Madrid. – Last October 6th, the Senate defeated, by 129 votes to 117 (with one abstention) the motion presented by the spokesman of the PP in the upper house, Pío García-Escudero, that the Government declares bullfighting an item of Cultural Interest and to include it in the world list of Immaterial Cultural heritage. Roberto Lerchundi, socialistic deputy, reminded the house that the State does not have the authority to declare an item of Cultural Interest regarding bullfighting as that power has been transferred to the autonomous regions.
