The web page of the French organisation “Terres Taurine” has now officially confirmed what was already common knowledge, the support of French President Nicolas Sarkozy as a supporter of the cruel and archaic practice of bullfighting. According to the published on the web page of “Terres Taurines”, Sarkozy openly supports the registration of bullfights in the Immaterial Cultural heritage of France. On May 23rd, in response to a letter of gratitude for the registration sent by the mayoress of Mont-de-Marsan and the President of the Union of Bullfighting Cities, Geneviève Darrieussecq, Sarkozy confirmed via his head of his cabinet that he believes it in “the interest of the Head of the state to safeguard our popular traditions and that they contribute to the maintenance of the identity of our country and to the promotion of the cultural diversity. ” He adds that “ his commitment to defending and preserving the practices, expressions and artistic knowledge that form the patrimonic culture of France for all time. ”
