France, May 2012. – The unpopularity of bullfighting among French citizens, along with the growing anti-bullfighting movement has persuaded celebrities to think about their image and move away from the bullfighting milieu. A few years ago, French politicians and show business stars, had no qualms at being seen in the front rows and even in the “alley” of the arenas. Suddenly they have disappeared and so noticeable was the change that even the pro bullfighting daily news Midi Libre, has written an article titled “Where are the celebrities?” Moreover, during the Feria de Béziers, shopkeepers have ceased to adorn their shop windows with bullfighting paraphernalia. Even some politicians in the south of France have found it prudent to change sides on the issue and have disassociated themselves from these events.
