Madrid. – Spanish TVE broadcast last Sunday, within the cartoon series ‘Vipo´, a program for small children, a scene that includes a clear anti-bullfighting message. The scene takes place when a stork explains to Vippo (a dog character) what a bullfight consists of. He tells him that: “Bullfights are not fair. They force the bull to fight although he does not want to do it. He does not want to hurt the killer, they are great and Billy (the cartoon bull character) is there all alone, he is a peaceful bull. Of course, we support the bull.” says the stork. The series, aimed toward children between 3 and 5 years old, is broadcast first in the TVE children’s schedule. We congratulate the chain for the broadcasting of this episode where the sad hard truth of the bullfights is emphasized, as simple as it is lamentable, that the torture of the animal always ends with its death. Let us hope that from this start there will be further initiatives to raise awareness as wise and appropriate as that of TVE. (February, 2010.)

Congratulations to the director of TVE, Santiago González:
